We were recently contacted by a member of staff at the RWB Academy to see if we could help with the 2022 6th form students and their wish to create a legacy garden at the school.

Phil and Geff visited the proposed area and discussed the proposal with Hilary Stubbs, Sixth Form Support Manager at the Academy. The intention was to do the garden in a couple of phases and create a raised bed centre section, with corner borders and gravel pathways. The entrance would have an arbour with plants growing over it. The overall feeling to be a quiet area where students could sit and relax.

As there was quite a lot to do and only a short time available, it would need to be done in phases, so the first phase would be to create some planters and a bench. As the students aren’t really diy’ers, it was decided to make the items as flat packs, then get the students to assemble and treat them.

Phil created the various flat pack sections and having confirmed that they fitted together correctly, disassembled the units, marked them for correct reassembly and transported the packs, fixings and tools to the Academy.

The items consisted of 2 x 600mm square planters, 1 x 1500mm planter and a 1500mm bench.

They had a great time and really felt they had achieved something worthwhile. There was singing, laughing and joking and all around a great sense of fun and achievement. The photos hopefully show the commitment employed.
